Private equity investment – is it for you?
Venture capital (also known as private equity) investing is all about taking risks with your money. On a scale of one to ten, it is a solid nine – far more risky than the Building Society account but not as bad as gambling your fortune on the National Lottery.

Why I do what I do
I was recently asked to write about ‘Why I do what I do’. Since then, I have been in search of a detailed answer, but every time I ask myself, my simple reply is: Why wouldn’t I? When I see a hungry child begging, working or, worst of all, sleeping on the streets, my instinct is to want to nurture them and give them what they are so obviously lacking. It is with awareness of the bigger picture, and the investment of time and energy I put into providing options for these children, that I manage to hold myself back.

The greatest investment of all
Shrewd financial management is all very well, but doing it at the expense of your physical wellbeing is rather missing the point. By investing just as carefully in your short- and long-term health and wellbeing by becoming more aware of what you eat, its benefits and the way in which you eat it, you’ll feel healthier and happier in the long run.

Women and Brand
Do women and men spend money in different ways? On the face of it, not really – Mr Millard and I are locked into the same financial headlock of childcare and mortgage. Yet I feel I have more pressure on my bank account, since he doesn’t have the additional diurnal temptations of handbags, new dresses from Gap or haircuts to tempt him from the straight and narrow. • Women owned and managed businesses make an estimated contribution of £60 billion to the economy

But by following few basic steps, collecting contemporary art can be challenging without being terrifying, and can even become a lifelong addiction…

Just Giving
“I concentrate on the things I know and care about. By doing that I come to problems with the ability to add experience and skills to the wealth I am giving as a philanthropist.”

“Most philanthropists are aiming for visible results, but not in the sense of ‘I paid for this building, there it is’ but what it actually achieves... Visible, tangible and hopefully numerous results.”

Financial Risk and the modern women
Good news – British women are getting rich, fast. They’re earning a lot – the average female salary may still be 17 per cent below that of the opposite sex, but the figures are shifting. Earlier this year, four in ten women over 40 told a survey conducted by Women and Home magazine and IceSave that they out-earned their partners.
