Addidi features in official History of Parliament commemorative album for Vote100 celebrations
This year marks 100 years since Parliament passed the Representation of the People Act 1918 which was a package of electoral reforms that extended the vote to women for the first time.
To celebrate the occasion, an official commemorative album, entitled Voice & Vote is being published and we’re delighted to announce that Addidi will be part of it.
Voice & Vote is being produced thanks to a partnership between publisher St James’s House and the History of Parliament Trust. As an official partner to the project, Addidi will feature in the book with a commentary from Anna Sofat. “We are proud to be part of this significant moment in our history. Addidi is the voice of women’s wealth so it felt absolutely right to be involved,” said Anna. She has also been invited to attend the official launch of the album, which takes place on 27th June at Westminster Abbey.
Written by academics and experts, and featuring a fascinating selection of archival images and documentation, the book tells the story of the struggle for women to get the vote, how the vote was won and how the fight for equality continues to this day.
Anna’s commentary is about the importance of female role models: “There are plenty of examples of great women doing amazing things throughout history. But, in general, we need more accessible role models for women – not just those who are exceptional.”
Commenting on Addidi’s involvement with the project, Anna said:
“The world was a very different place for women a century ago and the 100 year anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 really brings this into focus.
Women have come so far and although there is still work to be done, it’s a huge honour to be involved with the project and celebrate the progress women have made.
For our part, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the financial independence many women now enjoy, along with the earning and decision-making power we now have. Addidi is looking forward to continuing the journey; inspiring, enabling and nurturing women as we create a better, more equal future for us all.”
